Cody Webb Hard Enduro Clinic
Casper, Wyoming July 2024 we organized a riding clinic with none other than FactoryOne Sherco rider, Cody Webb. Under Cody’s instruction the 14 of us spent the weekend refining and correcting our techniques and then ultimately putting them to the test and overcoming obstacles we (at least me personally) would have otherwise found a way to go around.
I was able to book a property called the Mosteller Ranch in Casper that has been a venue for national trails and vintage trials events in the past, so the terrain lent itself perfectly to plenty of technical obstacles both natural and man-made. We were able to incorporate plenty of rocks and logs into our trailing and even some creek riding. The creek proved to be the most challenging portion of the entire weekend, where Cody took us through a section that had two diagonal logs in the creek a little over a bikes length apart. This meant that as soon as you were able to somewhat overcome the first log which kicked most of us sideways as our rear tires spun on the log, you were already vulnerable and crooked for the next log, which was about twice the size. As a result of this, some riders were able to learn how to properly balance their weight to stay upright even as the bike slid underneath them, other riders learned how waterproof their riding boots were and then there were even a couple guys that found out how to properly clear water from the exhaust of their bikes after they submerged them.
The big take-aways from our weekend with Cody Webb were all centered around efficiency. We talked on bike set up and rider ergonomics. This meant having your levers and controls in the correct position so it matches your posture. Something as simple as moving your brake pedal up could be the difference between comfortable descending a steep hill or reaching too far down with your toes and putting your whole body out of whack as you slide out of control. We discussed setting up the suspension on your bike to fit the terrain you’re riding, and suggesting a little quicker rebound for more technical riding. Cody spent time with riders and helped create a more balanced bike between front and rear suspension, making the bike react more equally front and rear when the bike was compressed. Beyond the bike, efficiency was the goal when overcoming features as well, we worked on trials style techniques like the double blip and/or “jap-zap” to hit undercut obstacles without getting hung up on the skid plate.
Taking our newly acquired knowledge into the wild on day two allowed us to hit obstacles in real time, we were able to ride more of a trail atmosphere and test ourselves on features along the way. Cody was able to show us not only what we were now capable of by putting us in situations to overcome undercut rocks and tight off camber turns, but he also took the time to show us what he was capable of, and damn was that impressive. Cody has an ability to look at an obstacle, plan a line, hit it to see what happens, reset and hit it again the way he saw it in his head all in a matter of maybe a minute. This happened so many times throughout the weekend that we had to add “Speed” to his Goaty Webb nickname calling him Speedgoaty Webb. Rightfully so we made him the Speedgoat helmet using some antelope horns as a Wyoming keepsake.
Off the bikes Cody is as cool and humble as they come, he lets his riding and results speak for him. Just like talking with any local rider, our conversations were about our past injuries and rehab we’ve done for them that’s allowed us to keep going. We talked family and our own business ventures we’re getting up and running, mine of course being the Nevra App and Cody is currently building and growing his online training program CW2 Training. Little side note, I subscribed to the CW2 Training platform and the value is absolutely worth it. He gives you a direct line of communication with him to critique your riding and goes through his weekly workout regiment to stay in shape as one of the top hard enduro riders in the world.
Overall we had a great time bringing Cody Webb up to our little riding community here in Casper, WY and we plan to continue offering unique riding experiences whenever we can. And stay active on the Nevra App, Cody text me to let me know he downloaded the app himself. Who knew you could possibly find yourself riding with the best of the best when you use Nevra.
